Inspiration and After-School Snacks

After I posted about my music-loving ways, I got a great comment from Shane that I just have to share!

He wrote, “When I ran my first Half last month instead of asking people to donate for a charity.  I asked friends and family to give me a song that inspires or motivates them. I ended up with a very interesting list!  What I liked though was thinking of each person as I listened to the track they had submitted. That really helped me!”

I love it!  I never use my iPod outside and haven’t used it during any races, but I did dedicate marathon miles to my loved ones.  I can only imagine that listening to their song selections when you’re really digging deep would be a great motivator!  It was a tip I had to share.  Thanks, Shane!

Onward…

As a teacher, I have never gotten out of school mode.  I still hear the familiar late bell, say the Pledge of Allegiance, and go out for recess.

Oh yeah…and yoga!  Didn’t your teachers practice yoga after lunch? Maybe you didn’t enjoy a daily vinyasa, but I bet you looked forward to that afternoon snack!  I still do.  As soon as I get home, I make a cup of tea and eat a snack.  It’s almost always something sweet – yogurt ‘n granola, toast ‘n jam, apples ‘ peanut butter – but not today.  Today I had the best snack ever.

It wasn’t the least bit sweet.  Savory all the way!  I topped a slice of whole wheat with homemade marinara and some pepper jack cheese.  I broiled that up until it was bubbling with cheesy goodness.

It was a play on my favorite food in the whole wide world – PIZZA!  Of course, I loved it.  I was pleased as punch as I sat down to read blogs this afternoon.  This one’s a keeper.

Off to yoga!  Have a great night!

Are you a snacker? I totally am!  I love snacking.

What are your favorite snacks? Lately, I’m loving the sweet ‘n salty combos.  Trail mix with salty nuts and sweet dried fruits are on my hot list.

The Big Apple

I think I might be getting the hang of this taper business.  I am enjoying a quintessential fall Sunday in New England.  I started with an exceptionally tasty breakfast.

The apples are just too good to ignore.  I topped a simple batch of stovetop oats with hot, sweet, cinnamon apples.  They gave the usual banana a run for it’s money!  I love the sweetness of warm, cooked fruit.

It was the perfect way to begin an apple-filled day!  Today, I made the annual trip to The Big Apple.

This local farm is an attraction for everyone – children, family, puppies!

It’s sprawling with acres of apple trees, corn fields, and fresh vegetable gardens.  There were plenty of bright orange pumpkins setting the scene.

I’m not quite ready to carve a pumpkin, but bring on the apples!

Yes, please!  I love watching all the behind-the-scenes action on the farm.

The apple grader sorts the apples as the come off the orchard, while the bakers work to perfect their warm donuts.

As a kid, I always got a warm donut and a candy apple from The Big Apple. I broke tradition today, but that’s OK!  Kettle corn was calling me.

Fresh kettle corn was perfect for munching as I walked through the farm.  I loved watching the families, the little faces lighting up as they selected perfect pumpkins and ate homemade ice cream.

Happy Sunday!

What is your favorite fall activity? Fall is one of my favorite times of year, especially in New England.  I love the colored leaves, the apple picking, and the hot cider.  It’s a great time to be outside!
