I went to bed early last night. It felt so good to curl up under the covers, spring air breezing through the windows, with a puppy at my feet. Perfect conditions for a good night’s sleep…and that’s what it was!
I was more than ready to get up and move when the alarm sounded at 5:20. I’m really starting to like running in the early hours. To be successful, I always lay out everything the night before. It makes it easy to roll out of bed, throw on the gear and go! I fueled up with a mini Luna bar – the size was just right!
Within minutes I was road ready. I can’t stress enough how happy it makes me to leave the layers at home! Thank goodness it’s spring because I was so done with piling on 18 layers for every run. All I needed this morning was a pair of shorts and a long sleeve tee. Yes!
Total Distance: 3.65 m
Total Time: 31:24
Average Pace: 8:36/mi
I won’t bore you with my splits since I’m on a training hiatus, but I will say it felt great to be out there! While running, I thought about the things I need to do to stay healthy and strong for a marathon. I decided that I will start icing my knees after each and every run. I have yet to experience pain or injury and I will do anything in my power to prevent both!
Lucy kept me company as I iced. Thanks for keeping my mind off the cold, Lu! You’re one in a million!
My mini Luna bar kept me content as I got ready for the day, but by 7:00 am, my belly screamed, “Breakfast!” I had some extra time, so I cooked up a delicious Berry-Berry Oatcake.
The base was a traditional oatcake.
- 1/3 c. quick oats
- 1/3 c. egg whites
- 1 t. baking powder
- 1 t. vanilla extract
- sprinkle of frozen blueberries.
I topped the oatcake with ~1/3 c. plain Greek yogurt and a berry blend. I mixed 1/3 c. frozen blueberries with 3 fresh strawberries and heated until they got warm and juicy.
Wow! This was so good. I was nervous about the absence of nut butter, but the Greek yogurt was just as yummy.
Good ’til the last bite! Guess that means I have to go to work. Meetings all day…I miss my kids already!
Happy Hump Day!
