My New Toy

I finally bought a new camera.

I’ve relied on my phone or my mom’s camera for the past few weeks, but I broke down and bought my own yesterday.  I’m pretty sure it goes against the blogger camera code.  It’s clunky and bright blue.  It’s a 10.0 mega pixel with 3.3x zoom.  If that’s not impressive enough, it came straight out of a Target interoffice envelope.

Boxes are so 2010.  This fancy envelope holds the key the photography greatness.

Or maybe just the clearance display camera that I nabbed for $80.  Target doesn’t save the boxes for their display cameras…and I’ll buy anything with the promise of an additional 10% off.  I have running shoes to buy and races to register for.  Budget cuts can hurt, but this little blue clunker screamed BeckOnTheRun. I know it will be perfect for all of my blogging needs.

This morning, I used my new toy to snap a pretty photo of my oats.

Lately, my breakfast looks more like this…

But I was inspired!  I also captured the snow-covered trees.

And my lovely post-run sweat.

Turn off the flash, I know! My camera proved durable enough to handle that kind of photo session, so I know it’s right for the job!  Prior to this photo, I completed a treadmill run – 6.5 miles in 60 minutes – and I felt great!  I kept the incline between 0.5% – 1.5% the entire time to add a little challenge to the run.  I had my gym buddies on either side of me and the time flew by.  My aunt even encouraged me to do a little extra core work at the end.  It’s amazing what a difference a gym buddy can make…and a new camera!

Where do you splurge/save when shopping? I know I spend too much of food and clothes, but I have no problem cutting back on electronics.   I still watch the same TV that I got in 1995.  HD?  What’s that?

Sunshine and Spinning

For most of my childhood, I wanted to be a Broadway star.  I wanted to wear a flashy costume and belt Gershwin at the top of my lungs.  As I grew up, my dreams evolved.  I didn’t want to a Broadway star; I wanted to be a ROCK star.  Rock stars were way cooler, so I zipped up my leather jacket, chopped my hair, and rocked out to Jagged Little Pill at every chance I got.

Alanis had no idea who she was messing with.  I gathered the neighborhood kids and we tore up the basement stage.  Everyone had a signature song.  Mine was “Ironic,” by Ms. Morrisette, of course.

It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It’s meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think
A little too ironic… and yeah I really do think…

Crazy kid!  That silly song came to mind when I walked outside today.

The sun was shining and the snow was melting.  Wearing only a long-sleeved shirt, I walked around and reveled in the calm, mild day.

A random February Thursday – 58 degrees and perfect for running – and I was walking around.  Ironic. After spending months complaining about the weather, I could not push my body to run on this glorious day.  I enjoyed it anyway.  Nothing could stop me from doing that!

Instead of running, I turned to spinning.

Indoor cycling on a beautiful day.  Ironic. But spin class did not disappoint.  One of my favorite instructors taught the class.  She pushed us, made us laugh, and played insane music.  She brought out my inner rock star.  What a workout!  I don’t care if it’s barely 9 o’clock, I’m ready for bed!

Tomorrow is for resting and eating to prepare for Saturday.  I’m starting to feel less fearful and more excited.  Maybe that’s the spin endorphins talking?! I don’t know, but I’ll take it!

When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up? When asked, I told people I wanted to be a teacher…but deep down, I wanted to be a star.  I am a teacher…but deep down…hahaha!  It’s fun to reminisce.
