Cupcakes and Juice

A sweet treat is the perfect way to cap off a long weekend of fun.

Sweet vegan treats from a fun vegan bakery make it a little more special.

Shared with a baked-goods loving friend, of course!

Last night, Lauren and I visited Wildflour Vegan Bakery and Juice Bar for the first time.  It opened up right next door to my favorite vegetarian restaurant.  How convenient!  I was dying to try it out.

Upon walking in, we were greeted by cases of decadent desserts and coolers of vibrant, fresh-squeezed juices.  How could we choose just one?  We couldn’t!  We decided to share two lovely little treats.

The first dessert – the candy bar cupcake.

It had a brown sugar cake base with a chocolate-peanut butter frosting and candied peanuts.  I was the first to take a bite.  I tried to get a good a ratio of cake and frosting on my fork.  I hate to say it, but this didn’t top my favorite cupcake.  It had good flavor and the frosting was amazing, but the cake was a bit dry…too dry for my taste.  I took more bites, but the ratio of cake to frosting definitely tipped more towards the yummy frosting.

Time for dessert number two – the pecan cinnamon roll.

This dessert reminded me of my gram.  It was big and doughy, just like the cinnamon rolls we had for breakfast at her house when I was a little girl.

Of the two, this was my favorite dessert.  It had plenty of sweetness to go around – candied pecans, a sugary glaze, and a delicious cinnamon filling.  I definitely enjoyed each tasty bite in between non-stop chatter.

And lucky for me, Wildflour had the perfect juice to wash down dessert.

Beetox!  This juice was a combination of beet, carrot, apple, ginger, and lemon.  It tasted very, shall I say, earthy? Quite healthy, but I’m pretty sure I’ll stick to coffee with dessert.  I have not yet acquired the taste for this…although, Lauren’s juice looked very yummy.  Maybe I’ll order a Big C next time.

At 9 PM, Wildflour closes.  I would know.  I was still jammering away when the friendly waitress came to remind me.  All in all, a great night.  We shall return!

Do enjoy visiting new restaurants/establishments? I’ll be honest, I get overly excited about any new spot that opens up ’round here.  We have too many chain restaurants nearby, so a cute, local place always draws me in.

A Busy Elf

My co-workers are probably tired of me saying it.  I’m in the mood to bake. I want to wear jammies, turn on the warm oven, and create a racket in the kitchen.  Alas!  I have few minutes to spare this week.  The mess-making baking will have to wait.  Until then, my family and friends will still have sweet, seasonal treats to enjoy.

Candy cane kisses melt perfectly into salty pretzels.

A crunchy, coated milk chocolate m&m gets nestled in the center for Christmas flair.

And one tired elf puts on her jammies!

I have special events and holiday parties at school and after school.  A batch of these comes together in minutes and always pleases the crowd.

What’s your favorite holiday party contribution? I am hoping to enjoy a long, flour-filled day in the kitchen soon.  Holiday cookies are where it’s at!
