Today was dedicated to packing. I’m going to the beach! After tomorrow’s run, I’m headed to the other end of the smallest state to enjoy our coast for a full week. Since I was a little girl, we’ve been renting beach houses. My dad’s side of the family vacations together every year and we have so much fun!
See…I was a beach bum right from the start!
Yep. That’s my little self cheesin’ for the camera. Not a care in the world when my toes are in the sand.
Today, I’ve been preparing for this year’s trip. Packing for the beach house always overwhelms me a little. I need so much stuff! To keep myself organized, I made a list. I still have some laundry to do…but the essentials are ready to go!
Beck’s Beach Essentials:
Enough sunscreen to last the week…I hope! Sunscreen is quite possibly my least favorite thing in the world. It’s slimy, stings my eyes, and needs to be reapplied every three seconds! Sunscreen is absolutely necessary when outdoors! As much as I hate it, I love the way it protects me from burning, while allowing me to enjoy the summer sun.
We will be grocery shopping at the house, but it’s definitely more cost effective to stock up on non-perishables at home. Beach days require snacks! My loot:
- a giant bag of homemade trail mix – dried fruit, cereal, and peanuts
- whole grain pretzels
- ziploc bags of Kashi GoLean
- almods
- PB & Jelly – beach sandwiches!
- Dark Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans – what?! That’s not essential? Chocolate and coffee – essential for me!
Summer reading! I packed a mix of informational reading and mindless fun books. Being at the beach always reignites my love of reading. I often get stuck in ruts where I can’t get into reading books, so I opt for skimming magazines and internet articles. Really, though, there’s nothing better than a good book on the beach!
Beach hair! On a whim, I kinda chopped my hair today. I left the house with this mop…
and once again, Lisa worked her magic! I got rid of all the craziness going on in the back. Short hair definitely works for me in the summer. So much for growing it out!
I tested the new ‘do poolside.
I can already tell that I’m going to like this! This photo was snapped after I’d gotten wet and let the hair air dry. A hands off approach to styling – scrunch and go – so easy! My family will be grateful that they won’t hear me whining about my frizzy, crazy hair in the humidity.
I’ve got a little more to do. Luckily, check-in is only at 2 pm tomorrow, so I’ll have plenty of time to run around crazy finish any last-minute packing. Yay!
Question Time!
Any summer reading suggestions? All suggestions are welcome. I love many different genres.
