I love eating as much as I love running.  Just as I need certain equipment for optimal running performance, I need certain food.

I have a few thoughts when making choices about what I will eat:

  • Deliciousness! I only eat foods that taste great.  I like to enjoy every bite.
  • Nutrient density. I try to choose foods that offer some bang for their buck! I usually go for the least-processed option.  I try to avoid artificial ingredients/sweeteners.  I love whole grains, beans/legumes, fruits, veggies, nuts and nut butters, and Greek yogurt.
  • How food makes me feel. My body responds to everything I fuel it with.  My passion for running often requires me to tweak my eating habits.  My body doesn’t love lots of dairy or sugar…and it has fun ways of telling me! I often eat the foods that will prepare me for runs and give me the energy to power through long days.  I will skip the ice cream sundae if I want to run in the morning…I can always enjoy it after the run!

While I try to eat well – I love the way my body feels when I do! – I also indulge when I’m in the mood.  I’m a sucker for desserts, enjoy the occasional glass of wine, and I’m known to steal fries from friends and family.

One of my favorite things about food is all the fun you can have with it.  I love selecting ingredients, reading recipes, and getting into messy kitchen experiments.
