Not gonna lie…I love shopping!  It’s a good thing I love it because I’ve been shopping all day!  It did me some good.  Today, I went from this…

…to this!

That dress – $12!  I kept the bargainista in mind during this trip.  She always has the best fashion, beauty, and shopping tips.

Clearly, I didn’t start my day in a pretty dress.  I started with a PB&J sandwich thin and seven miles.  I laughed in the face of humidity.  Ha!  I can’t let it get me down on every run, so I faced it.  I took it slow to make sure I didn’t get nauseous again.  It worked.  Besides the salty sweat burning my eyes,  it was all good!

Total Distance: 7.0 miles

  • Mile 1 – 9:10/mi
  • Mile 2 – 9:09/mi
  • Mile 3 – 9:35/mi
  • Mile 4 – 9:07/mi
  • Mile 5 – 8:57/mi
  • Mile 6 – 8:58/mi
  • Mile 7 – 9:19/mi

Total Time: 1:04:15

I needed a cold snack after that jaunt.

My yogurt mess was perfect.  I added a banana and cereal to some plain Greek yogurt.  I threw some Chex into the mix this morning.  Ahh…the cereal of my youth!  It was a nice addition.

Just as I finished eating, I got a shopping invitation.  Twist my arm, why don’t ya?! I joined my aunt, Gram, and cousins for some back to school shopping.  Teachers go back to school, too.  I had to partake!  I actually did really well at scoring some deals and avoiding a spending spree.  I’m far from perfect, but I made a solid effort.

My shopping trip was powered by Lara.

I grabbed another new flavor for the road.  I didn’t rave about the chocolate chip cookie dough bar, but….I loved this one!! The peanut butter chocolate chip was right up my alley.  It had the salty flavor from the peanuts mixed with sweet morsels of chocolate.  I have a new favorite Larabar flavor.  This bar comes highly recommended.  If you see one, buy it, and try it.

We ended a long day of sale racks and fitting rooms with some lunch.

Bertucci’s was the easiest option.  It’s right in the mall and always has something for everyone.  Plus, I am sort of obsessed with their hot rolls and dipping oil.

I started with a doughy roll before ordering the soup and salad combo for lunch.

Crisp and fresh.

Warm and hearty.

It was just the lunch I needed after a tiring spree – lots of fun, though!

As promised, I shall return with a review of Born To Run. I’m excited to share my thoughts!

Are you a shopper?  What’s your favorite thing to shop for? Since I love shopping, most trips are fun.  I especially love shopping for clothes…and FOOD!

I’m Learning

What is one of the most critical elements to healthy, balanced life? Flexibility.

Everyone has a different approach to working, playing, eating, and exercising.  It’s a good thing.  We’re not the same and it would be impossible for us to adhere to the same schedules and routines.  We are not a one size fits all group.

Flexibility is something I had to learn.  It didn’t come naturally to me.  I am Type A.  I plan.  I prepare.  There was a time when a wrench in the plan could really throw me for a loop.  Thankfully, I came to realize that freaking out about small things caused me to miss out on all the fun.  Fun is meant to be had, not missed!

On Thursday, I will fly to Chicago for the Healthy Living Summit! I am getting really excited.  I cannot wait to be part of a weekend filled with fun, food, and many new friends.  I want to enjoy every minute of my time in the city, so I’ve adjusted my training accordingly.  I’ll run and lift on different days…maybe skipping a run, if need be.

Week Nine of marathon training started today.  Yay!  I ate a simple breakfast and hit the the gym.

My sandwich thin was smeared with Dark Chocolate Dreams PB and stuffed with banana.  Since I don’t do well on an empty stomach, this was the perfect light breakfast before gym time.

When I got to the gym, I hopped on the treadmill.  My favorite treadmill was free! Yes.  I have a favorite treadmill.  I like to think of myself as quirky, not crazy.  ;)   Anywhoo….I got on and ran four miles, focusing on negative splits.

  • Mile 1 – 6.5 mph (9:13/mi)
  • Mile 2 – 6.7 mph (8:57/mi)
  • Mile 3 – 6.9 mph (8:41/mi)
  • Mile 4 – 7.1 mph (8:27/mi)

The run took about 35 minutes and felt really good.  Tomorrow, my mid-week run bumps up to seven miles.  I’m ready!

After running, I hit the weights.  I’m on a roll, people!  I’m on a roll!

  • 10 push-ups
  • stiff-legged dead lifts – 15x – 10 lbs.
  • alternating dumbbell row – 15x – 10 lbs.
  • overhead press – 15x – 7.5 lbs
  • concentration curls – 15x – 10 lbs.
  • hammer curls – 15x – 7.5 lbs
  • triceps dips on step – 15x
  • bicycle crunches – 30x

I repeated this circuit twice.  Done and done!  I feel like I’m getting the hang of it.  Each strength training session feels slightly more natural.  With the help of Marshall Mathers, I’m getting through the exercises with intense boredom.

Post-workout, I enjoyed a tasty mid-morning snack.

Cottage cheese with fresh berries…my favorite combo!  It’s cold, creamy, salty, sweet.  I’m choosing cottage cheese over yogurt more and more these days.  I just love it.

I ran some errands today, but came home to make lunch.  It was fresh and delicious.

I’m on such a salad kick lately.  I’ve been eating monster salads for lunch for days!  I hate to be a bore, but they’re just really good.  This salad had plenty of veggies and a few fruits.  I love fruit in my salad.  I also got some crunch from my favorite crackers.  I’m glad I chose to eat at home because I have dinner plans tonight.  I also have plans to finish reading Born to Run. I can’t wait to write a full review for you.

Have a great evening, ladies and gents!
