Embrace the Sunrise

The morning sun makes waking up worth my while.  As soon as I opened my eyes, I could see streams and peachy-pink shining into my window.  The pavement called me!

Total Distance: 5.0 miles

  • Mile 1 – 8:41/mi
  • Mile 2 – 8:35/mi
  • Mile 3 – 8:37/mi
  • Mile 4 – 8:23/mi
  • Mile 5 – 8:33/mi

Total Time: 42:51

Average Pace: 8:34/mile

I really enjoyed this run.  Knowing I have a busy day ahead of me makes my runs so much more important.  I used my time to organize my thoughts, collect myself, and make a plan of attack.

The first step of the plan involved breakfast – something hearty!

Nothing screams hearty like oatmeal. This bowl had all the classics:

  • 1/2 c. old-fashioned oats
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 very ripe! banana
  • 1 T. ground flaxseed
  • 1/4 c. egg whites – stirred in at the end
  • cinnamon
  • Toppings: almond butter, dried crans

The egg whites make oatmeal so voluminous!  This bowl seemed to go on forever.  I enjoyed every spoonful.  I know oatmeal seems boring, but I really do love it!  I have other breakfast options, but I can’t get enough of the oats.

Last night I cracked open Hal Higdon’s training guide.  I love his approach to training.  He really knows how to break things down for the average runner.  Anyway, I read his chapter on achieving the perfect pace.  Understanding pace is difficult, especially when training for a first-time marathoner. Hal shared some tips, tricks, and resources that I can’t wait to share with you!  Check back later for some fun with pacing!

Have you followed any training plans? If so, which was your favorite?

I’ve used Hal’s plans as the foundation for my own.  I loved his half-marathon plan and feel comfortable with the plan for the full.

Happy Tuesday, my friends!

Hal is great! I really like Coach Jenny, she shares some of her plans with the Active Network. I definitely need to do better by following a schedule. Often if I don’t feel like doing something I’ll skip it and do what a want. Woops!

    Gorgeous sunrise!!

The plans I followed I have posted on my site under the “how I run” tab. I don’t exactly remember where I found them but they all worked like a charm!
